Overview

The Melbourne Airport Environs Safeguarding Standing Advisory Committee was appointed by the Minister for Planning on 8 March 2020.

The committee is asked to advise the minister in two parts, Part A and Part B.

Part A

(Ongoing)

Planning proposals of strategic importance within Melbourne Airport’s environs which may impact its ongoing operation.

Its advice may include:

  • whether any referred planning scheme amendments should be granted and if so, in what form
  • whether any referred planning permit applications should be granted and if so, the appropriate conditions for the permit
  • any other referred planning proposal.

Part B

(Complete)

Review of planning provisions for airport safeguarding, including:

  • the planning policy framework, zones, overlays and any other related planning provisions safeguarding Melbourne Airport’s environs
  • relevant guidance material and any complementary airport safeguarding tools and processes.

On 23 April 2021 the committee published an interim issues and options paper to seek specific comments on potential controls and policy changes for airport safeguarding.

On 15 November 2021 the committee provided its final advice to the minister on the review of planning provisions for airport safeguarding (Part B).
